Tajikistan Deports 49 Afghan Migrants, Raising Concerns Over Migrant Rights

The Ministry of Migrants and Returnees of Afghanistan has announced that Tajikistan has deported 49 Afghan migrants. These migrants were returned to Afghanistan via the Shir Khan Port in Kunduz province on the 7th and 8th of Jowza (May) 1404.

According to the ministry’s statement, 36 of the deported migrants held valid residency documents for Tajikistan, and 12 possessed legal visas. However, the specific reasons for their deportation have not been disclosed, raising concerns about the transparency of the process and the respect for migrants’ rights in Tajikistan.

This incident occurs amid growing challenges for Afghan migrants in neighboring countries, particularly following recent political changes in Afghanistan. Many Afghan migrants face issues such as forced deportation, residency restrictions, and economic hardships in host countries.

The Ministry of Migrants stated that efforts are underway to support returnees and address their basic needs. Meanwhile, human rights activists have called for greater international attention to the situation of Afghan migrants and adherence to their legal rights in host countries.

This event underscores the need for regional mechanisms to manage migration and protect migrant rights. It is expected that the Afghan government and international organizations will take coordinated actions to prevent such incidents in the future
