Norway Contributes Over $4 Million to Afghanistan Trust Fund
The Afghanistan Trust Fund announced that the Norwegian government has donated $4.25 million USD to support its programs.
In a statement on its official X account, the fund noted that Norway’s financial contribution will enhance critical services in Afghanistan during these challenging times. The Trust Fund expressed gratitude for the aid, describing it as a vital step in its ongoing efforts to support the country’s most vulnerable populations.
The Ministry of Economy welcomed the donation and urged the international community to focus on infrastructure projects to bolster Afghanistan’s economy. Abdul Rahman Habib, the ministry’s spokesperson, stated, “We appreciate Norway and all countries and organizations collaborating with us on economic initiatives.”
This contribution comes at a time when humanitarian aid to Afghanistan has significantly declined. Earlier, the United Nations issued a call for increased support to address the needs of Afghans.
The UN’s Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) estimated that in 2025, over 22 million people in Afghanistan will require humanitarian assistance. According to OCHA, 40 percent of these aid efforts have been curtailed due to the cessation of financial support from the United States
