Israel Prepares for Potential Military Action Against Iran if Nuclear Program Resumes
According to the U.S. website Axios, Israel is preparing for possible military action against Iran if Tehran attempts to revive its nuclear program.
The report, citing Israeli officials, states that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, during a meeting with U.S. President Donald Trump on Monday evening, July 7 (local time) at the White House, seeks to reach agreements on nuclear negotiations with Iran and establish scenarios to justify new military strikes.
Ron Dermer, Netanyahu’s senior advisor, has stated in closed-door meetings that, based on his recent trip to Washington, he believes the Trump administration would support Israeli strikes on Iran under specific conditions.
These conditions include scenarios such as Iran attempting to extract highly enriched uranium from damaged facilities in Fordow, Natanz, and Isfahan or rebuilding its nuclear enrichment infrastructure.
Dermer met last week with Vice President J.D. Vance, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, and White House Special Envoy Steve Witkoff to discuss these issues. While Trump, since the end of the 12-day Israel-Iran conflict, has twice referenced potential U.S. strikes if Iran resumes uranium enrichment, he has also emphasized pursuing negotiations with Tehran to avoid new conflicts.
A key focus of Dermer’s discussions was Iran’s stockpile of approximately 400 kilograms of 60% enriched uranium, stored in damaged but not fully destroyed facilities. Uranium enriched to 90% is required for nuclear weapons, and U.S. and Israeli officials are closely monitoring Iran’s activities at these sites.Iran’s President Masoud Pezeshkian, in an interview with Tucker Carlson broadcast on Monday, confirmed that Iran’s nuclear facilities have been severely damaged, but Tehran is currently unable to fully assess their status.
Meanwhile, Steve Witkoff is set to meet Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi in Oslo to resume nuclear negotiations, though a final date is yet to be confirmed.Dermer has informed Israeli officials that the U.S. remains committed to preventing uranium enrichment on Iranian soil in any future nuclear talks. As tensions in the region remain high, any Iranian move in the nuclear domain could have serious consequences. Israel, potentially in coordination with the U.S., is preparing for military action while diplomatic efforts continue to avert escalation.
