Minister of Higher Education: Islamic Sharia Is Our Priority
Neda Mohammad Nadim, the acting Minister of Higher Education of the Islamic Emirate, emphasized the importance of “religious values” during a meeting with Takayoshi Kuromiya, Japan’s ambassador to Kabul.
He described the implementation of “Islamic Sharia” as the top priority of the Islamic Emirate and criticized the international community’s policies toward Afghanistan.
According to Nadim, the international community adopts a “double-standard” approach toward the Islamic Emirate. In a press release issued by the Ministry of Higher Education on Sunday, 22 Saratan 1404 (July 13, 2025), Nadim stated: “On one hand, the international community claims to support and cooperate with Afghanistan, while on the other hand, it threatens the leaders of the Islamic Emirate with prosecution.”In the meeting, Nadim underscored that Islamic Sharia forms the cornerstone of the Islamic Emirate’s educational and governance policies. He emphasized that the Ministry of Higher Education is working to restructure the education system based on Islamic principles to raise a generation committed to religious and national values.
He stressed that any international cooperation in the education sector must respect these values. The Japanese ambassador, in turn, expressed his country’s readiness to collaborate in educational and cultural initiatives, highlighting potential joint projects to develop educational infrastructure.
However, Nadim reiterated that any cooperation must align with the Islamic Emirate’s priorities and respect its religious framework. This meeting took place amid ongoing challenges for the Islamic Emirate in gaining international recognition. The emphasis on Islamic Sharia as the foundation of educational policies reflects the Emirate’s conservative approach to governance. Nadim’s remarks also signal a firm stance on maintaining religious principles while navigating complex international relations, calling for a more consistent and respectful approach from the global community to foster constructive dialogue and cooperation with Afghanistan
