Military Training Plane Crash in Bangladesh: 19 Dead, Over 50 Injured
On Monday, July 21, 2025, a tragic accident occurred when an F-7 BGI training aircraft of the Bangladesh Air Force crashed into the premises of a university in Uttara, a northern area of Dhaka, the capital city, killing at least 19 people.
Kabul 24: According to a Bangladesh Fire Service official, the incident took place in the early hours of the morning, with the aircraft colliding with the roof of the university’s dining hall.The Public Relations Office of the Bangladesh Army confirmed the crash in a statement, noting that the aircraft had taken off at 1:06 AM local time.
The cause of the crash is currently under investigation, with authorities yet to determine whether it was due to technical failure, human error, or other factors. Emergency response teams and security forces were promptly dispatched to the scene to conduct rescue operations and manage the crisis. Footage from the site showed thick smoke and flames rising from the crash location.
Medical sources reported that over 50 individuals, including several children, sustained severe burn injuries and were rushed to nearby hospitals. Some of the injured are in critical condition, raising concerns that the death toll may rise. Eyewitnesses described scenes of panic as students and staff fled the university dining hall during the incident.
The local newspaper Prothom Alo reported that initial findings suggest the aircraft struck the dining hall’s roof, causing significant structural damage. University authorities have suspended all academic activities until further notice to allow for safety assessments.
