UN, China, and Pakistan Raise Concerns Over Terrorist Activities in Afghanistan

Despite repeated denials by the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan regarding the presence of terrorist groups, Asim Iftikhar Ahmad, Pakistan’s representative to the UN Security Council, has reiterated claims that the Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), Daesh, and Baloch separatist groups are operating from Afghan soil.

During a Security Council meeting addressing the threats of terrorism to global peace and security, China’s representative urged the Islamic Emirate to take action to eliminate terrorist groups in Afghanistan.

The representative also called on regional countries to leverage existing frameworks, such as the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, to strengthen counter-terrorism efforts in the region.

In the same meeting, Vladimir Voronkov, UN Under-Secretary-General for Counter-Terrorism, claimed that Daesh’s Khorasan branch poses a significant threat to Central Asian countries from Afghanistan.

The Islamic Emirate has previously stated that Daesh has been suppressed in Afghanistan and that no country is currently threatened from its territory
