Ministry of Finance Initiates Pension Payments for Retirees of Nine Institutions
The Ministry of Finance of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan has launched the process of paying pensions to retirees from nine institutions.
The process begins nine months after the leader of the Islamic Emirate issued a decree to establish a special court to address retirees’ pension rights.
According to the Ministry’s statement, to streamline and facilitate the process, pension payments for civilian and military retirees will be managed through a joint operational center at the General Directorate of Pensions, in coordination with the special court and relevant institutions.
The Ministry announced that, in the first phase, pensions for retirees from nine institutions—namely the National Standards Authority, National Disaster Management Authority, General Directorate of Physical Education and Sports, Ministry of Martyrs and Disabled Affairs, Independent Administrative Reform and Civil Service Commission, National Environmental Protection Agency, Presidential Protection Service, Office of the National Security Council, and Ministry of Economy—have been verified.
These retirees can submit their petitions to the special court, and their pensions will be processed and paid within one month based on established procedures.
Mohammad Rahmani, head of the Pension Fund at the Ministry of Finance, stated in an audio message to the National Television that the number of verified retirees currently stands at 150,000.
He noted that retirees are divided into five categories, with the first phase covering those whose documents have been verified and submitted to the Pension Directorate.
However, he did not clarify whether this figure includes retirees from the Republic era.Experts emphasize that paying pensions is a critical issue in Afghanistan’s current context and urge the government to prioritize it.
The Ministry has requested that retirees from institutions not included in the first phase refrain from visiting the General Directorate of Pensions.
According to the statement, a schedule for the remaining institutions will be announced on the 25th of Sunbula in the current financial year.
