Islamic Emirate Seeks “Strong Relationship” with the United States

Zabihullah Mujahid, the spokesperson for the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan, has expressed the desire to establish a “strong relationship” with the United States.

In an exclusive interview with a Japanese media outlet, Mujahid criticized the continued freezing of Afghanistan’s foreign currency reserves by the U.S., calling it a barrier to the country’s economic progress.

Mujahid emphasized the Islamic Emirate’s interest in fostering constructive diplomatic and economic ties with Washington to serve mutual interests.

He described the ongoing freeze on Afghanistan’s assets, blocked since the Islamic Emirate’s takeover in 2021, as unjust and urged their release to support Afghanistan’s economy and its people.

These reserves are critical for addressing the nation’s pressing humanitarian and economic needs.

Addressing the issue of girls’ education, Mujahid called it an internal matter rooted in Afghanistan’s cultural values. “The education of girls is an issue tied to our culture, and we ask others not to interfere,” he stated.

This stance comes amid ongoing international criticism of restrictions on female education in Afghanistan, which remains a significant point of contention.

Mujahid underscored Afghanistan’s sovereignty, urging the international community to respect the country’s independence and focus on constructive engagement rather than intervention.

He highlighted the Islamic Emirate’s efforts to rebuild the nation and strengthen ties with global partners.

The call for improved relations with the U.S. reflects the Islamic Emirate’s broader push to gain international legitimacy and reduce Afghanistan’s political and economic isolation.

However, challenges such as the frozen assets and differing views on issues like education continue to complicate diplomatic efforts.

Mujahid’s remarks signal a willingness to engage with global powers, but the path to normalized relations remains fraught with obstacles.
