Kunar Earthquake Death Toll Surpasses 1,400
The devastating earthquake in Kunar province has claimed over 1,400 lives and injured more than 3,000 people.
According to Hamdullah Fitrat, deputy spokesperson for the Islamic Emirate, the disaster struck the districts of Nurgal, Soki, Chapa Dara, Pich Dara, Wutpur, and Asadabad, the provincial capital, destroying 5,412 homes.
Fitrat stated, “In the mentioned districts, 1,411 people have been martyred, 3,124 injured, and 5,412 houses have been destroyed. Rescue operations are ongoing in all affected areas.
In regions where helicopters cannot land, hundreds of commando forces have been airlifted to extract the injured from the rubble and transfer them to safe locations.”The earthquake also caused a tragic loss in Diwa Gul valley of Soki district, where 35 members of a single family perished.
The scale of destruction has posed significant challenges to rescue efforts, particularly in remote and hard-to-reach areas.The Islamic Emirate and relief organizations are mobilizing resources and personnel to address the crisis.
However, the extensive damage and difficult terrain have complicated aid delivery.
