Birth of a Baby Girl Amid Earthquake Rubble in Konar
In a remarkable act of resilience, a 25-year-old midwife named Pakiza trekked for hours through blocked roads to deliver a baby girl in the open air, without advanced medical equipment, in Afghanistan’s Konar province.
According to Save the Children, the birth took place on the evening of Thursday, September 13, 2025.
Pakiza stayed overnight to care for the mother and newborn, ensuring their safety in the aftermath of the earthquake.Pakiza emphasized the urgent need for medicines, hygiene supplies, and medical equipment for women and mothers in the earthquake-affected areas.
