Egypt: Forced Palestinian Migration Is a Red Line; Gaza Famine Is Israel’s Doing
Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty described claims that the forced displacement of Palestinians is “voluntary” as “nonsense.”
Speaking at a joint press conference in Cairo with Philippe Lazzarini, Commissioner-General of UNRWA, on Saturday, September 6, 2025, Abdelatty emphasized that forced migration is a red line for Egypt, Jordan, and other Arab nations, and will not be permitted under any circumstances.
He stated, “If there is a man-made famine, its purpose is to force people to abandon their homeland.
It is absurd to call such displacement voluntary.”Abdelatty attributed the famine in Gaza to Israel’s actions and urged Tel Aviv to accept a ceasefire proposal by Steve Wittkopf, the U.S. Special Envoy to the Middle East, which Hamas has already endorsed.
He highlighted Israel’s “intransigence” as the primary obstacle to achieving a ceasefire, noting that Wittkopf’s proposal includes a 60-day temporary truce in Gaza.
The Egyptian minister outlined a comprehensive Arab-Islamic plan addressing security arrangements, governance, and reconstruction in Gaza
