Phase Two of Qosh Tepa Canal to Be Completed in Five Months

Zabihullah Mujahid, spokesperson for the Islamic Emirate, announced that the second phase of the Qosh Tepa Canal, one of Afghanistan’s largest agricultural projects, will be completed within the next five months.

He added that the first phase was finalized last year, and the third phase will commence soon.

Mujahid emphasized the Islamic Emirate’s commitment to implementing national economic projects for the country’s development.

Officials from the National Development Company, responsible for executing this major project, reported significant progress in constructing the main dam and the second phase.

They aim to complete this phase ahead of schedule. The Qosh Tepa Canal, stretching 285 kilometers with a width of 108 meters and a depth of 8.5 meters, is one of the region’s largest water transfer canals.

LIt has the capacity to transfer 6 cubic meters of water per second, annually delivering approximately 20.5 billion cubic meters of water from the Amu River to irrigate Afghanistan’s plains.

Extending from Kaldar district in Balkh to Andkhoy district in Faryab, this canal will irrigate 550,000 hectares of land, bringing a transformative impact on Afghanistan’s agricultural economy.
