Afghanistan’s Population in 1404 Estimated at 36.4 Million

The National Statistics and Information Authority (NSIA) has estimated Afghanistan’s total population in 1404 (Solar Hijri) at 36.4 million. Mohammad Halim Rafi, the spokesperson for NSIA, provided details of this estimate in a video statement.

According to Rafi, 51% of the country’s population are men, while 49% are women, indicating a near-balanced gender distribution.The NSIA further reported that the estimated population of nomadic communities (Kuchis) in 1404 is approximately 1.5 million, representing a significant portion of the country’s population.

 

This data is crucial for planning development initiatives and providing services to this group.Among Afghanistan’s provinces, Kabul stands out as the most populous, with an estimated 6.1 million residents.

 

As the capital and a key economic and cultural hub, Kabul continues to attract a large population. Herat follows as the second most populous province, with 2.3 million people. The prominence of these provinces is attributed to their strategic geographic, economic, and social significance.Rafi also announced plans for a nationwide census.

 

The Council of Ministers has tasked the NSIA with preparing a comprehensive plan for this census, which has now been finalized and approved. The official census process is set to begin soon, aiming to provide more accurate data on population, geographic distribution, and demographic characteristics.

 

This initiative is expected to enhance planning in critical sectors such as education, healthcare, and infrastructure, contributing to more effective resource management and sustainable development.This report underscores the government’s commitment to updating demographic data and leveraging it for informed policy-making. The forthcoming census is anticipated to be a significant step toward improving national development strategies
