Afghan Worker Registration for Qatar Ends; Transparency Urged
With the completion of the registration process for the legal deployment of Afghan workers to Qatar, both hope and concerns have emerged among applicants and their families.
Many applicants emphasize that the selection process should prioritize professional skills and economic needs over personal connections.Bakhtiar, a resident of Kapisa, said: “The key is that jobs should be given to those who are qualified. Professions should be assigned to professionals.”Omid, a resident of Kabul, added: “Transparency means that people with connections shouldn’t be sent to Qatar.
Instead, those who are qualified or in genuine need should be registered to get an opportunity.”Zalmi, from Ghazni, stated: “Visas for not only Qatar but also other countries like Saudi Arabia, Dubai, and European nations should be made available to us.”On the other hand, the Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs reported that over 15,000 people registered for the program, with 3,100 to be selected.
Samiullah Ibrahimi, the ministry’s spokesperson, said: “Since the registration began, fortunately, 8,700 people have registered in Kabul alone, covering Kabul and the central provinces.
The process is also being completed in other provinces with the same goal.”Taj Mohammad, a resident of Parwan, remarked: “Our request is that embassies in Arab countries facilitate visas. We ask the Islamic Emirate to enable us to freely obtain visas from neighboring and Arab countries so workers can pursue their professions freely.”Economic experts view this program as an effective step toward reducing unemployment, creating sustainable income for families, and curbing illegal migration.
They urge the government to expand such initiatives to other countries, particularly those needing labor and prioritizing economic cooperation with Afghanistan.Sayyed Masoud, an economic analyst, noted: “This is a significant step, providing opportunities to train unskilled and semi-skilled workers, generate income, and ensure a worker’s trust and credibility in a calm life based on contracts and conditions.”Previously, the Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs stated that the program offers job opportunities in fields such as electrical engineering, livestock management, and hospitality skills.
