Qatar and Afghanistan Sign Agreement to Build 400-Bed Specialized Hospital in Kandahar

The Ministry of Public Health of Afghanistan has signed a memorandum of understanding with Qatar to construct a 400-bed specialized hospital in Kandahar.

This initiative, supported by the Qatar Charity Foundation, aims to enhance healthcare services in southern Afghanistan.

Authorities announced that the construction of the hospital will take over two and a half years to complete, marking a significant step toward addressing the region’s healthcare challenges.Noor Jalal Jalali, the Minister of Public Health, described Kandahar as one of the provinces with significant gaps in healthcare access.

He emphasized that the hospital will substantially meet the healthcare needs of mothers and children in the southern region. Jalali stated, “With Qatar’s financial support and through its charitable foundation, this hospital will be built within two and a half years.

I am confident that this facility will not only improve specialized services in Kandahar but also enhance healthcare access across the southern region, making tertiary care more accessible.”Mardaf Al-Qashouti, Chargé d’Affaires of the Qatar Embassy in Kabul, highlighted the project’s broader impact, noting, “This agreement, signed between the Ministry of Public Health and the Qatar Charity Foundation, will establish a 400-bed hospital.

Its services will extend beyond Kandahar to cover the entire southern region of Afghanistan, contributing to a reduction in maternal and child mortality rates.”Munem Shah, Head of the Qatar Charity Foundation for Afghanistan, added that the hospital will be built on a plot spanning over 10,000 square meters and will include emergency, surgical, internal medicine, obstetrics, and laboratory departments
