Netanyahu: Israel’s Strike on Qatar Comparable to U.S. Attacks on Afghanistan
On Wednesday, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu compared Israel’s airstrike on Qatar to the United States’ military operations in Afghanistan following the September 11, 2001 attacks.
He described Israel’s attack targeting Hamas leaders in Doha as a legitimate action against terrorism.
Referencing the anniversary of the 9/11 attacks, Netanyahu stated, “We have our own 9/11. We remember October 7, when Islamist terrorists committed the most heinous atrocities against the Jewish people since the Holocaust.”Netanyahu noted that after 9/11, the U.S. vowed to pursue and eliminate those responsible for the attacks worldwide, and the UN Security Council passed a resolution warning countries against harboring terrorists.
He argued that Israel followed the same principle by targeting the “masterminds of the October 7 attacks” in Qatar, a country he accused of “sheltering terrorists, funding them, and housing Hamas leaders in lavish palaces.”Responding to international condemnation of the strike, Netanyahu remarked, “When the U.S. killed Osama bin Laden, the world applauded.
Today, Israel should be praised, not condemned, for upholding the same principles.” He issued a warning to Qatar and other nations providing refuge to Hamas leaders, stating, “Expel them or bring them to justice; otherwise, we will.”The airstrike on Qatar has sparked widespread international reactions.
Netanyahu emphasized Israel’s right to self-defense, framing the attack as part of its commitment to eliminating terrorist threats, and called on the global community to support Israel in this effort.
