Work on Overpass Begins in Baraki, Kabul Residents Welcome the Project

Kabul Municipality Launches Major Overpass Construction at Baraki Square

The Kabul Municipality has officially commenced preliminary construction work on a significant motor overpass at Baraki Square, one of the busiest and most congested intersections in the capital city. This infrastructure project aims to alleviate traffic bottlenecks and improve urban mobility in the area.

Project Details: Two Sections with Extensive Infrastructure

Nematullah Barakzai, a representative of the Kabul Municipality, provided detailed insights into the overpass design and timeline. The project is expected to be completed within two years, with an estimated budget of approximately 1.5 billion Afghanis.

  • First Section: Connecting Naderia High School area to Traffic Square, this segment will span about 470 meters in length. It will be supported by roughly 525 pillars and will have an elevation of around 5.5 meters.
  • Second Section: Linking the Deh Bagh area to the Parwan-e-Du locality, this part will measure approximately 700 meters long, with 400 pillars and a similar height of 5.5 meters.

Mr. Barakzai emphasized the scale and importance of the project in enhancing traffic flow and urban infrastructure.

Positive Public Reception and Expectations

The announcement and commencement of the overpass project have been met with enthusiasm among Kabul residents. Many citizens expressed optimism about the potential benefits of the new infrastructure.

  • Ghausuddin, Kabul Resident: “Once the overpass is built, it will create great convenience for citizens. This project will beautify the area and reduce traffic congestion.”
  • Dadullah, Kabul Resident: “Constructing the overpass is a very good initiative. It will help people reach their workplaces faster. However, the construction work should proceed quickly.”

Residents are hopeful that the project will be completed efficiently and bring lasting improvements to daily commutes.

Additional Infrastructure Developments Underway in Central Kabul

In addition to the Baraki overpass, the Kabul Municipality is advancing another critical urban development project. Officials have announced the start of earthwork on a new road extending from Joy-e-Shir to the Kabul underground area.

  • Road Specifications: The new road will be 783 meters long and 32 meters wide.
  • Project Cost: Estimated at 62 million Afghanis.

This road construction is expected to further enhance traffic management and connectivity in central Kabul, complementing the overpass project.
