Afghanistan and Kazakhstan Sign $133 Million Trade Agreements

On Wednesday, September 11, 2025, trade agreements valued at over $133 million were signed between Kazakhstan’s National Food Contract Corporation and Afghanistan’s private sector during a business forum in Kabul.

The event, attended by over 200 traders and officials from both nations, was organized by the Islamic Emirate’s Ministry of Industry and Commerce in collaboration with the Kazakh Embassy, marking a significant step in bilateral economic cooperation.

According to the Ministry of Industry and Commerce, these memorandums of understanding (MoUs) facilitate the import of nearly 600,000 metric tons of essential food commodities from Kazakhstan.

The shipments include flour, wheat, and oilseeds such as flaxseed and soybeans, addressing Afghanistan’s annual demand for over 2 million tons of grains.

As a major Central Asian grain exporter, Kazakhstan fills a critical gap in Afghanistan’s food supply chain, potentially lowering domestic prices and enhancing stability amid banking sanctions and limited international financing.

This influx supports food security for a population where the UN estimates 23 million people require humanitarian aid in 2025.Acting Minister of Industry and Commerce Nooruddin Azizi, speaking at the forum, emphasized the complementary economic potentials of the two countries. “Afghanistan and Kazakhstan possess significant and mutually beneficial capacities in trade,” Azizi stated
